Evidence for the Existence of God - pt 2 Genesis 1:1-1:1
Evidence for God II- Creation

1. The uniqueness of the Bible- considering cosmology.
a. All the other “holy books” of the world were penned from the limited perceptive of human beings and reflect the limited and often incorrect knowledge of the times in which they were written.
b. Only the Bible is beyond the dimensions of length, width, height, and time.
c. Only the Bible successfully predicted future scientific discoveries.
d. Only the Bible accurately described cosmic origins and the anthropically fine-tuned nature of the universe and solar system.
e. Only the Bible has the complete solution to the human moral dilemma.

2. The scientific evidence that the God of the Bible transcendently created the Universe for the benefit of the human race.
a. Astronomy directly observes and measures the past.
b. Because of light travel times (186,282 mps) and the distance between astronomical bodies. What we see now is what occurred in the past.
c. Examples:
i. Sun – we see conditions that happen 8 minutes ago.
ii. Orion Nebula- 12 thousands years ago.
iii. Center of our Galaxy- 30 thousand years ago.
iv. Andromeda Galaxy- 2 million years ago.
v. Astronomer’s can actually see all the way back to when light separated from darkness and to the split second after the cosmic explosion with which all the universe’s time, space, matter, and energy.

3. Evidence for the Transcendent Cause.
a. First evidence of a cause operating beyond matter, energy, space and time dimensions of the Universe.
i. Einstein’s theory of General Relativity.
1. … that a finite time ago the entire universe came forth and is still expanding from an infinitely dense state (singularity).
2. The picture that emerges is that for a solar system to exist with a planet capable of supporting life the universe must be very large and have three rapidly expanding dimensions of space. (A life-supporting universe must be expanding.)
3. The fact that the universe is expanding from a beginning was verified in 1929 by Edwin Hubble.
4. In 1970 Stephen Hawking and Roger Penrose, proved by the equations of General Relativity that space and time must have originated concurrently with matter and energy.
5. So… to sum up the implications of General Relativity- that space, time, matter and energy all had a beginning in the finite past and the universe is expanding from a point of origin. If the universe had a beginning it must have a Beginner.
6. GR also shows that the cause of the universe is independent or transcendent of space, time, matter and energy.
7. In Roger Penrose’s own words. GR is “the most accurately tested theory known to science.” GR is not just a theory put is a basic fact of science.

4. Star-light and Time (2 possibilities)
a. 1st- the universe actually is 14 billion years old.
b. 2nd- the universe is only about 10 thousand years old.
c. “If the universe is only thousands of years old, how do you explain the millions of years it takes for light to travel from distant stars?
d. Both Young-earth and Old-earth creationists believe the distances between the stars are really millions of light years apart. So, that is not the issue.
e. According to GR, gravity affects time. Clocks at a low altitude tick slower than clocks at a high altitude. Scientific observations confirm this effect.
f. It is called, “Gravitational Time Dilation.”
g. Example: the atomic clock at the Royal Observatory in England ticks five micro-seconds per year slower than the identical clock at the National Bureau of Standards in Boulder, Colorado.
h. The time difference between the two is exactly what GR predicts should be that case with the mile higher altitude difference.
i. All one has to do is assume a center to the universe and the expansion of the universe from its center and GTD is what you would get.
j. You would get six days of time on earth and 14 billion years of time at the edge of the universe.

5. Cosmic background radiation. Proof of the creation event.
a. In the 1940s, Scientists on the condition that the universe expands rapidly from a singularity, that is, from a transcendent creation event, calculated that a faint background radiation from that event of just a few degrees above absolute zero must exist everywhere in the sky astronomers look. The predicted radiation was discovered in 1964.
b. Background radiation is like turning off your oven and opening the door. The heat radiates from the stove until is completely cools.
c. In 1992, the COBE satellite, detected the temperature differences at exactly the level predicted by the creation model.
d. Later, in 1993, COBE satellite measurements showed that the cosmic background radiation (the radiation remaining from the Gen. 1:1 event) fits the spectral profile of a perfect radiator.

e. Only one scientific explanation accounts for this radiation: The universe must have started from a nearly infinitely hot and infinitely compact volume. (Singularity)
f. “This cosmic entropy (heat loss) measure eliminated any possibility for a reincarnating or oscillating universe (the Hindu-Buddhist-New Age idea of a universe cycling through a sequence of beginning, growth, contraction, and re-beginning). Eliminated, too, is the possibility of stretching the bang of the creation event over a tightly spaced succession of “little” bangs. The universe must have erupted from a single explosive event that by itself accounts for at least 99.97 percent of the radiant energy in the universe.”- HUGH ROSS

6. The Fine-tuning of the Universe. (design factors) Anthropic Principle.
a. The expansion rate of the universe.
i. Establishing that the expansion of the universe from the creation event is governed by two factors, a mass density term plus a space energy density term, means that both the mass density and the space energy density of the universe must be fine-tuned to an extremely high degree for the universe to have any capacity to support physical life.
ii. The mass density term must be fine-tuned to better than one part in 1060, and the value of the space energy density term to better than one part in 10120.
iii. fine-tuning is compared to the best example of human engineering design, namely, a gravity wave telescope. The cosmic fine-tuning in the cosmic density terms establishes that the cause or God of creation, at a minimum, is ten trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion times greater than man’s engineering capabilities.
iv. The fine-tuning of the universe is likened to balancing 50 thousand pens on their tips on a table at one time. That is the sensitivity of the fine-tuning of the Universe!

7. Conclusions of Astronomers.

a. George Smoot, University of California at Berkeley, astronomer and project leader for the COBE satellite: “What we have found is evidence for the birth of the universe.” He added, “It’s like looking at God.”
b. Michael Turner, Astrophysicist at the University of Chicago in Fermilab: “Unbelievably important.... The significance of this cannot be overstated. They have found the holy grail of cosmology.”
c. “Astronomers who do not draw theistic or deistic conclusions are becoming rare, and even the few dissenters hint that the tide is against them.” Geoffrey Burbidge of the University of California at San Diego complains that his fellow astronomers are rushing off the join “the first Church of Christ of the Big Bang.”
d. As Robert Jastrow has written, “Astronomers now find that they have painted themselves into a corner because they have proven, by their own methods, that the world began abruptly in an act of creation.

8. Biblical references supporting Creationism:
i. Gen 1:1 “heavens and earth” (beginning for space, matter & energy)
" In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." (Genesis 1:1, NIV).
ii. Titus 1:2 “beginning of time” (beginning for time itself)
"a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time," (Titus 1:2, NIV).

iii. Isaiah 42:5 “stretching the heavens” (expanding universe)

"It is I who made the earth and created mankind upon it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts." (Isaiah 45:12, NIV).
"that you forget the LORD your Maker, who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, that you live in constant terror every day because of the wrath of the oppressor, who is bent on destruction? For where is the wrath of the oppressor?" (Isaiah 51:13, NIV).
"But God made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding." (Jeremiah 10:12, NIV).
"“He made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding." (Jeremiah 51:15, NIV).
iv. “God inhabits eternity” (transcendent Creator)
"For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones. " (Isaiah 57:15, NKJV).

Science facts and theories taken from the writings of Hugh Ross and Russ Humphreys. Starlight and Time by Dr Humphreys is the best theory to date concerning youth earth Big Bang cosmology. Dr Humphreys postulates an expanding universe from a white hole. On the fourth day of creation at the event horizon of the white hole time would stand still on the earth and would allow for the billions of years to pass in the universe while only six 24 hour days pass on the earth.
